Cycling

Cycling is a fantastic activity to challenge yourself and your body regardless of whether you are a total beginner or an athlete in the sport.

There is nothing wrong in saddling up and cycling for pleasure. But, equally, there is absolutely nothing to stop you being far more ambitious, boosting your performance and taking part in high intensity cycling.

With cycling you don’t have to have a rippling torso or have a six-pack to train really hard. There is also no age limit as you don’t have to be in your teens, 20s, 30s or 40s to significantly improve cycling performance.

Benefits:

The heart can adapt specifically to the physical demands met during a training session. Like any other muscle, the heart needs regular training to maintain its fitness. The ventricle becomes more compliant, meaning less resistance during filling.. When you train, your heart will develop a higher stroke volume due to an increase in the cardiac chamber size and an expanded total blood volume. This will enable your heart to deliver more oxygen to your muscles with fewer beats. In turn, this will help you to ride faster. But this improved cardiovascular fitness will also bring benefits in other parts of your life. You will feel physically stronger, have more energy to do other vigorous activities and will also feel more energised.

Indoor riding on a stationary bicycle has advantages above and beyond avoiding darkness and bad weather. Used correctly, indoor riding can be a key component of a broad based cycling training program. Some cyclists have noted that using a stationary cycle seems much more difficult than riding outdoors. There is an old saying that an hour on a indoor cycle is worth two on the road. Understandable when you consider that outdoors you stop for traffic lights, freewheel down hills. No such breaks on the indoor cycle, you're at a fairly constant rpm.

Ultimate indoor cycling

Ignite PT offers the ultimate in one-to-one cycling coaching as we use the only stationary bike to be developed with and endorsed by British Cycling - the Wattbike. The WattBike is the product of years of research and testing by the world's most renowned cyclists, sports biomechanics and coaches and unlike any other indoor bike, the Wattbike feels and rides like a normal road bike.

Whether your goal is a great workout, triathlon, continental sportif. Through rehabilitation, to winter training, to Olympic training. or a charity ride, we can provide the guidance, coaching and equipment needed to develop your cycling ability to its' peak.

Guaranteed results

The Wattbike uses variable resistance, in this case using air and magnetic resistance, which you can change during sessions. But it also measures just about everything you could ever want to know about your cycling, including average and peak power, cadence and average cadence, energy expended, distance covered, left leg vs right leg– and much, much more.

Most indoor cyclists record performance data. It’s rewarding to compare results from previous workouts and to see demonstrable improvements.

Depending on what your goal is during your training session, you could: build endurance, increase cruising speed, raise your time-trial speed, lose or maintain weight, or all of the above. Once you’ve completed a training session your results will be downloaded onto a computer for you and your coach to accurately monitor and assess your progress. Power output results from the Wattbike correlate exactly with those of SRM’s Power Cranks – the power measuring devices that pro riders use on their race bikes.
